This Starter Guide is a work-in-progress. Feel free to add your own tips for the starting player!Company of Heroes 2 is a real-time strategy game set on the Russian Front in the Second World War. In the campaign setting players take the role of Soviet forces fighting to repel the German invasion.Company of Heroes also features a robust online PvP mode. Each player assumes a role on an opposing side of the conflict and skirmishes for control of a battlefield.Basic Controls Infantry units are divided into squads. Squads may be selected by single-clicking the shield icon above a formation of soldiers. Squads may also be selected by left clicking in the appropriate shield icon in the top right corner of the screen.Multiple squads may be highlighted by drawing a selection box around them with the mouse. Double-left clicking a unit shield selects all nearby units of the same type.Right-clicking on an enemy unit targets it, causing your selected forces to concentrate fire on the highlighted enemy detachment. Many units have special abilities available in the bottom-right corner menu.
Activate these abilities by left-clicking on them, then left-click again on the map to select targets. For example, throwing a grenade requires left-clicking on the grenade icon, then left-clicking on an appropriate target.Different units have different special abilities.Tactical Fundamentals Cover: Infantry units should remain in cover whenever possible. Comes in two conditions, yellow cover (half) and green cover (full).
Units in cover take less damage from most enemy attacks.Cover is of little use against grenades tossed over barriers. Are short-range weapons, so units in cover should concentrate fire on approaching enemies, as these are likely grenadiers.Negative cover also exists.
Negative cover represents an area where your troops are especially vulnerable to enemy fire. Roadways count as negative cover.Cover is also directional.
Units attacked from an unprotected flank do not enjoy the benefits of cover.Weather: is a severe threat in Company of Heroes 2. Units exposed outdoors in heavy snow will freeze to death in minutes. Soldiers can warm up inside structures or near campfires.Units in cold areas have a temperature bar.
When the bar turns blue, the unit is freezing. When the blue meter bottoms out, the unit is dead.Snipers and most vehicles are immune to the freezing effects of snow.Snow also slows movement considerably outside of well-marked roads.Build and Repair: create, which in turn provide construction resources for your forces.allow you to summon new forces to the battlefield. Provide useful cover and combat-oriented structures.allow you to create new units.
Clicking in a building reveals a menu of available units. Select the desired unit type from the menu and construction will begin. Once completed, the unit will move into place adjacent to the building.Units may also be created in remote locations by setting a. By clicking on a structure and then right-clicking on a map location, a Rally Point is created. All units built by that facility will subsequently spawn near that Rally Point.Structures: Structures provide some protection from both enemy fire and the elements. Grenade.pngMoltov Cocktails and Grenades:These weapons are only useful in close range, but allow the attacker to deal massive damage against units in cover.
Grenades are best deployed by a unit when covering fire is provided by a nearby ally to distract the enemy.Armor: Armored vehicles command respect on the battlefield. They are highly resistant to small arms fire, mostly immune to cold, carry heavy weapons, and traverse the battlefield with relative quickness. For all of these reasons, tanks are a natural choice to spearhead assaults.Tanks do have some prominent vulnerabilities.
AT mines can quickly disable them. Anti-tank guns are very effective against tanks, especially when striking from the side or rear. And of course Tanks are vulnerable to fire from other heavy vehicles.Suppression and Pinning: Suppression fire from an or can slow the movement of infantry, causing them to drop prone and cease moving. A unit held too long under suppression fire is pinned, and can no longer attack or move forward.Suppressed units are marked with a yellow triangle. Pinned units are marked with a red triangle.
Soviet vehicles include:. Katyusha Rocket Truck. Light Scout Car. Half-Track.Tips for how to Wield the Russian Army When using the Russian army it is very important to note that the emphasis of the mechanized units is specific and most often they are made for a certain task or role. That is why it is paramount for the Russians not to necessarily put all your chips into one particular unit than the other but to have an array of various different vehicles to do various jobs.
For example simply buying lots of T-34's will not necessarily pan out for the Russians the same way stock piling lots of Panzer IV's might for the Germans. The tanks are simply far too different and have far different limitations one of which is that on the whole most of the german tanks while more expensive are far more maneuverable and far more utilitarian in that they can do multiple jobs especially once they enter into veterancy. The Russians meanwhile have a different job for each Tank specifically such as the SU-85 being made to kill the heavier german tanks.
However, unless he has support from other T-34's it can easily be overwhelmed by flanking maneuvers from the sides due to its slow turn rate and forward mounted gun. Meanwhile the T-70 and M5 halftrack are exceptionally at dispatching infantry and sometimes other light vehicles they can't stand their own against any sort of real anti-tank weapons. The Katyusha Rocket trucks provide great long distance harass to anyone trying to set up forces for an assaults however are slow and only useful in this one way. Meanwhile the Scout car is one of the best map grabbing units in the game in that units, if garrisoned inside, can capture points making it one of the best land grabbing units in the game at the cost of losing battle effectiveness even against a few panzerfausts. Just remember to keep these notes in mind and always always make sure to not let axis players conversely build up their tank armada to the lategame, that is where the Germans will easily outmatch the Soviet tanks to a large degree because they will simply be more maneuverable and outgun you.
